According to the Day by Day Chronological Bible that we are reading, and where these daily readings are posted from, God remains the central character in Act 2 (which is the next setting for several weeks). He sets events in motion by making covenants and working through persons whom he has chosen to further his purposes. The central human characters are members of a single family down through the generations. Starting with Abraham and Sarah and through this family, God sent the Saviour, Jesus Christ. You will know Abraham and Sarah as Abram and Sarai of the Genealogy chapter of day 6, descendent of Shem, descendent of Noah, descendent of Seth, the son born to Adam and Eve after Cain killed Abel.

Genealogies!

You may see this and think blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah—but, have you ever talked to your family about their past? How your parents grew up? Where their families came from? Signed up for Ancestry.com? Gotten DNA results from 23 & Me? I guess you see where I’m going with this.

In the midst of God’s story, he included the genealogy of OUR ancestors, who they were, who they married, how they behaved! Following God’s word, we can see how time and history moved along 2000 + years ago.

Journey with us…

God’s Covenant with Us

Although Psalm 12 was written by David and refers to Israel, we can see the similarities to our society and realize nothing has changed over the centuries. We still want to be our own god (who can be our master?) and celebrate wrong as right (what is worthless is exalted by the human race). But God is ever present (you, LORD, will guard us; you will protect us from this generation forever) and faithful, even when we are not.

Sin and its consequences — the Flood and God’s covenant.

I don’t know about you but I’ve wondered about the ‘flood’ that was 40 days and 40 nights and the last line of chapter 7 states, “and the water surged on the earth 150 days”.

Check out what I found as an explanation: https://www.blueletterbible.org/faq/don_stewart/don_stewart_739.cfm.
