All glory and honor and praise be to God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth!

Notice the connection between Psalm 8 and Genesis 1–2; we are just a little lower than the heavenly beings.

Where did we come from?

The Gospel Transformation Bible commentary states that the drama of redemption begins “in the beginning”. Genesis is more concerned with God the Creator than with the time or details of creation. He is the sovereign King whose kingdom was orderly and good, but which is in need of redemption because of the tragedy of human sin. God’s word establishes order, revealing his will to make earth his kingdom and to prepare it for human rule. At every stage, God is for his creation.

I’ve read these chapters and verses countless times and have never thought about my order and rhythm of rest. Unfortunately, after reading this, I don’t think I have any.

I am hoping this commitment will change that.

Happy New Year, 2020!

Watched some Lou Giglio’s Passion 2020 last night from the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. What an encouragement to see 65,000 18/25 year olds spending their NYE worshiping the glorious God we serve. It runs from 12/31/19 – 01/02/20. Sold out!!! (the kids and the weekend)

Anyway, back to me, the TBN people, Matt and Laurie Crouch, hosted the event and Mrs. Crouch, in her closing statement, as she was encouraging everyone to step out of their comfort zone and expect big things from God, said go big or go home (yes I know she didn’t make it up and it’s been around forever); however, I am changing this to go big for God or go home. Let’s start the year with this mindset. We know God will certainly do big things for us. The question is always will we do big things for Him.

Here’s to an amazingly awesome expect and do big things for God 2020!

The Cross Centered Life

What are you centered on?

Asks C.J. Mahaney

He states that on a daily basis we’re faced with two simple choices. We can either listen to ourselves and our constantly changing feelings about our circumstances, or we can talk to ourselves about the unchanging truth of who God is and what He’s accomplished for us at the cross.

Far too often we choose to passively listen to ourselves. We sit back and let our view of God and life be shaped by our constantly shifting feelings about our ever-changing circumstances. Life is busy. Often hard. Full of distractions. And before a morning cup of coffee, our passive listening can take us on a roller-coaster ride as we review a hundred different topics and experience a dozen varied emotions.

Is it any wonder we’re so often unhappy? We’re listening to ourselves. We need to start talking to ourselves instead.

The cross centered life starts with biblical thinking.

Are you going to build your life on what you feel or what is real?

The above is taken directly from The Cross Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney.

I remember our pastor, Kyle, talking about and recommending a similar thing ‘Preaching the Gospel’ to ourselves daily. Also a book by the same (or similar) name, don’t remember the author. Actually, I just looked it up and it’s called A Gospel Primer for Christians: Learning to See the Glories of God’s Love (I was close, right?) by Milton Vincent. The premise of the book is that we should renew the Gospel everyday, not just one and done at salvation. We should experience the Cross daily, for living life and godliness—to preach the gospel to ourselves daily to strengthen our faith and define what we believe and why.

This is my prayer for us.

Welcome

We hope this will be the first day of your year long journey to read the Bible in chronological order.  Every day the reading will be posted; along with some things to consider, encouragements and questions about the daily reading.

My friend and reading partner, Lorraine, and I will be starting this new chronological reading on January 6, 2020 and encourage you to join us for this and to communicate here on this blog — a place to share thoughts, questions and comments.

Our prayer is that this will be the beginning of a fruitful journey, bringing you into deeper fellowship with our Creator.

Before We Begin

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

— Oscar Wilde.

Although this quote is credited to Oscar Wilde, it can be argued that it is a paraphrase of a thought of someone much greater…King David. In Psalm 139:13-14, he states, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
